It wasn’t long before the shop established itself as a hub, a place to exchange ideas and debate the merits of different writers. The street is withstanding. The city changes and recasts and rumbles the way beautiful cities do. An unusually strong first book, this collection of short stories depends on exquisitely crafted surfaces that conceal shocking emotional force.
